Bring on the Food Fight

The Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) has today welcomed the launch of “Food Fight” by Foodbank, which sees major brands help feed the thousands of Australians that go hungry every day.

Food Fight is a partnership between Foodbank and some of Australia’s most iconic household brands including Kellogg’s breakfast cereals, Helga’s and Wonder White, SPC baked beans & spaghetti and Ardmona tomatoes, Primo Smallgoods, Moccona and Harris coffees and Vetta Pasta.

CEO Mr Gary Dawson said AFGC supports this fight where throughout the month of August, when a Food Fight product is purchased, a food donation will be made to Foodbank to help fight hunger in Australia.

“Food Fight is an outstanding initiative by Foodbank and its partners who should be commended for their contributions to addressing the challenge of food security in Australia,” said Mr Dawson.

“The AFGC takes great pride in the work being done by the food sector to help combat hunger in Australia. It’s an honour for the AFGC to be associated with Foodbank and its vital work in giving practical help to those in need.”

“This year to date, Foodbank, through industry donations and partnerships, provided over 22 million meals to hungry Australians and I would also like to congratulate Foodbank for the important work it is undertaking.”

“Unfortunately, with so many competing hits to the family budget, food becomes a discretionary item, and many Australians still go without.”

“Australia’s food and grocery industry contributes around 30 million kg of food and other essential items to Foodbank annually in a practical demonstration of its commitment to sustaining Australia through the provision of safe, affordable, nutritious food to those in need,” concluded Mr Dawson.
