Processed Food Resources

Food processing is a general term that captures all processes that are applied to food ingredients to produce the food and drink products that are consumed each day.

Food processing is one of our oldest innovations and has been a staple of our diet throughout history. Processing serves many functions including to destroy microorganisms which may cause food spoilage and disease, extending the shelf life of products in support of greater food access and reduced waste, and to provide consumers with a diverse range of food choices from local and overseas sources that may not otherwise be available or in season.
