2. TETRA PAK

Packaging is essential in keeping so many products safe and intact, yet in Australia packaging recycling efforts have been hampered by distance and lack of infrastructure. 

Tetra Pak has led a government-funded collaborative effort to establish Australia’s very first food and beverage carton recycling facility.

3. APR NEWS ITEM

In Victoria, the trial of ‘pyrolysis’ technology that converts used soft plastic packaging into oil, is delivering promising results.

The AFGC’s National Plastics Recycling Scheme Trial has partnered with APR, Amcor Flexibles and Viva Energy Australia.

4. ESSITY

Essity and its technology partners, with the support of the Federal Government, has made significant investment in the use of pyrolysis technology and commercial trials, for recycling absorbent hygiene products.

Perhaps one of the food and beverage industry’s greatest sustainability challenges is to reduce the contribution of packaging to landfill waste and carbon emissions.

It’s a sad fact that a quarter of all food produced in Australia goes to waste – that’s nearly 37 billion dollars worth of lost value every year.

And it’s why… 57 industry leaders and 10 research partners have joined forces to establish the Fight Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre….driving insights and innovation to keep precious food out of landfill.
