AFGC WEBINAR | INCREASING PACKAGING POLICY PRESSURE

6 May 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Government and community pressure on packaging and plastics is continuing to increase.

In December, the Australian Greens’ were narrowly defeated in their attempt to introduce legislative amendments to mandate product stewardship on all plastic packaging and to mandate the National Packaging Targets. This pressure remains.

In the EU, plastic taxes up to €800/tonnes are being implemented on top of extended producer responsibility levies taking plastic packaging taxes over €1000/tonne.

The AFGC will be holding a webinar to brief members on the many current policy risks including:

  • Domestic policy pressure:
    • Views of federal and state governments, opposition and minor parties
    • What the waste industry is calling for
    • 2023 ARL adoption deadline
    • Recycled content
    • Packaging design and harmonised kerbside collection standards
  • Global packaging bans, regulations and levies
  • AFGC advocacy and action, including progress on developing the National Plastic Recycling Scheme
  • What can members do?

The AFGC recommends CEOs of all business sizes and product categories attend as packaging policy has the potential to significantly impact all members.
