FOOD AND GROCERY PRODUCT SAFETY
Food and grocery product safety is non-negotiable. Australia’s consumer protection regulations are among the most rigorous in the world so that consumers can be confident that the products they are purchasing are safe.
All sections of the food and agriculture industry are responsible for safeguarding the food supply: relevant government agencies, farmers, producers, transporters, processors and manufacturers, storage personnel and retailers. Consumers also have a role to play in maintaining safety through using products as directed, and general safe food practices.
Manufacturers take every precaution to ensure that consumers receive safe food and grocery products.
The industry gold standard to achieve this is through adoption of preventative safety systems such as Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP). The implementation of such safety systems is evaluated by independent third party auditors who are certified under the National Food Safety Auditor Scheme.
An integral part to product safety assurance, particularly in the event of a safety issue is traceability. AFGC strongly supports introduction of full traceability for food product ingredients.
