Building an efficient, responsive, profitable industry
Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) Industry Affairs Division serves members by working towards an efficient and cost effective value chain, with fair and equitable access to market on reasonable commercial terms across the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector.
AFGC will seek to deliver government policies and regulatory framework which promote efficiency, stimulates innovation and build equitable market access as the foundation of a thriving and economically viable FMCG sector in Australia delivering choice to consumers including the Brands they trust. What we do
Supply Chain
The Industry Affairs division provides policy advice on key supply chain issues to the AFGC Board through the Supply Chain Committee, including: regulation/legislation; retailer driven initiatives and relations; and global industry best practice.
Work programs focus on:
- removing unnecessary cost and waste along the supply chain;
- development of industry standards which establish agreed best practice procedures; and
- collection and dissemination of information and analysis to member companies (where appropriate under ACCC guidelines).
Industry Advocacy
On behalf of AFGC members the Industry Affairs division will engage with Government seeking better regulation with reduced compliance costs creating a conducive environment for Australian companies to grow, prosper and maintain viable local business operations.
The division advocates for regulatory policies that are responsive to the impacts of changes in consumer demand, increased market power concentration and greater global competition. Ensuring the industry’s voice is heard such that appropriate laws are in place to give FMCG companies reasonable access to market on fair and just terms is essential to the future of the industry.
The Industry Affairs division also acts on behalf of AFGC members at industry level seeking collaborative resolution with trading partners on emerging issues resulting from retailer/wholesaler. SME Services
The AFGC has a large number of SME members – in fact 54% of our membership falls into the small to medium sized company bracket and we are developing a range of services that reflect the differing needs of smaller food and grocery companies.
Our aim is to make a real difference for SME members by providing a voice on the key issues that matter.
AFGC understands that smaller companies do not necessarily have the resources to keep up to speed with industry developments or the technical or regulatory resources required to keep abreast of all regulatory developments and implications for your business. The Industry Affairs division facilitates the AFGC Small and Medium sized Enterprise (SME) Networking Forum, a peer group focused on exploring and discussing current and emerging issues that may impact SME members. The objective is to use the group's collective insight to assist the SME FMCG industry to be better placed to manage non-competitive issues and prosper in the market through:
- enhanced understanding of strategic industry developments;
- engagement with customers in the retail and food service sectors to keep abreast of major trade developments from the retailer perspective;
- addressing important industry issues and working towards mutually beneficial solutions;
- exposure to AFGC focus areas such as technical and scientific; sustainability; regulatory and legislative issues; supply chain and retail policy;
- provide and opportunity to network, sharing experiences and insights into dealing with business challenges (non-commercial)
